Camp Leaders

Dr. Mike Rakes is Senior Pastor of Winston Salem First Assembly of God in NC. Dr. Rakes and Darla are both Beach Freak veterans, and back by popular demand, will be the speakers for the services. They believe in living lives of authenticity, and communicate from that space in a way that both teens and leaders are encouraged to examine their lives and reconnect with a supernatural God, in a way that makes sense.


Rob and Vangie Sperti

Worship Leaders

Rob and Vangie have Beach Freak in their blood. Having led the musical worship for seven years at our camp, teens have come to love and expect the powerful ministry and God encounters that seem to happen every night at services. They love our camp, and have devoted their lives to developing worshippers across the United States. They are now Music Pastors alongside Dr. Mike Rakes in Winston Salem, NC.


Kevin and Danielle McManus

Camp Host and Worship Leader

Kevin and Danielle McManus lead Mix5 Student Ministries in Winston Salem, NC. Both are full of energy and passion to help students develop into fully devoted followers of Jesus. Kevin joined the Beach Freak leadership team in 2008 and is now the Camp Host. Danielle is a powerful leader in worship and will minister alongside Rob and Vangie Sperti.



Tommy Brown: Camp Director

Camp Director

Tommy Brown has directed Beach Freak since 2001. Alongside the Beach Freak leadership team, Tommy has seen the camp undergo quite a transformational experience as Beach Freak emerged as a leader among the nation’s youth camp experiences. Tommy handles the registration process, administrates the camp, and rides around in a golf cart for the week.

Jeremy has been to Beach Freak more times than most of the participants at camp have been alive. A youth ministry veteran, Jeremy leads Epoch at Kingwood Church in Alabaster, AL. Jeremy continues to serve the camp in numerous ways, including media communications.
